United For Freedom SSBN 262 Tecumseh (U.S. Navy) The USS Tecumseh (SSBN-262), named after the Shawnee leader Tecumseh, is a U.S. Navy fleet ballistic missile submarine, part of the United for Freedom class. Commissioned in 1970, it served as a strategic deterrent during the Cold War, capable of carrying Polaris A-3 and Poseidon C-3 missiles. The submarine was decommissioned in 1994 after 24 years of service and is currently part of the Nuclear-Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program.
