This is the second ECM album by the young British pianist/organist, who won the BBC JAZZ AWARD in 2008 and made his ECM debut in 2018 with the album "Obsidian". While the previous album was almost entirely a solo work with church organ, this album is a broader presenation of the organ sound with the addition of tenor saxophone, guitar, cello, drums, and other instruments. The musicians on this album are all longtime Downes friends, plus Norwegian guitarist Stian Westehus, with whom Downes is collaborating for the first time. I wanted to see how adding a first timer would change the direction of the recording," commented Downes. Downes comments.
